What Is the ONERO Program?

ONERO is an evidence-based, clinically supervised resistance and impact training program specifically designed for people with osteoporosis, osteopenia or low bone density. Developed by leading bone health researchers, ONERO addresses the two greatest risks associated with osteoporosis: fracture and falls.

SSEP is a certified ONERO provider. Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists are trained to deliver the program safely and effectively, with appropriate modifications for each participant.

What the Program Involves

ONERO is a high intensity resistance and impact training (HiRIT) program designed to safely improve bone health, reduce fall risk and support everyday function. Each participant's program is delivered under clinical supervision and tailored by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.

Participants complete an initial assessment before starting the program, including a review of their DEXA scan results, medical history and current physical capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can people with osteoporosis safely lift weights?

Yes, when properly supervised by an accredited exercise physiologist. ONERO is the only exercise program with published clinical research demonstrating safe and effective improvement in bone health for people with low bone mass. The key word is supervised. Attempting similar training without clinical supervision carries fracture risk.

Do I need a referral to start ONERO at SSEP?

A referral is not required to book an initial consultation. However, if you have a GP-prepared Medicare CDM plan, that allows you to access subsidised sessions. We are happy to liaise with your GP about your plan.

What happens in the initial consultation?

Your accredited exercise physiologist will review your medical history, discuss your bone health, review any DEXA scan results you have available, conduct a functional assessment, and discuss whether ONERO is the right fit for you. If ONERO is suitable, we will outline your individual program.

How is ONERO at SSEP different from other Sydney providers?

SSEP delivers ONERO as part of a broader clinical exercise physiology service. Differences include review of your DEXA results at initial consultation, direct liaison with your GP and specialists, support across the four funding pathways (Medicare CDM, private health, DVA, workers comp), and the option to transition between ONERO and our other Health and Rehabilitation services as your needs change.

Where is ONERO offered at SSEP?

ONERO is offered at SSEP Norwest, Suite 207, 10 Century Circuit, Bella Vista NSW 2153. Free on-site parking and lift access. SSEP has 8 other clinics across Sydney for other clinical exercise physiology services if Norwest is not convenient for you.

How long does it take to see results from ONERO?

Bone health responds to training over months, not weeks. Most clients see meaningful change in strength, balance and confidence within the early phase, with bone density changes assessed at clinically appropriate intervals using DEXA scans. Your exercise physiologist will set realistic expectations during the initial consultation.
